The Johnstown Hospital Foundation was formed following the closure of the Johnstown Hospital in 1988. A group of community members who had been involved with the hospital realized that there would be assets that remained after the closing and that those assets should stay in the community to continue to support the health and welfare of our citizens. This group successfully petitioned New York State to allow the assets to be transferred to the newly formed Johnstown Hospital Foundation. In addition to the assets of the buildings, many individuals had named the Hospital in their estate plans and those funds would come to the new Foundation as well. Since the formation, the assets of the Foundation have grown to over $6 million!
Our mission:
The purpose of the Johnstown Hospital Foundation Inc., shall be to promote the health, and safety of the citizens of the City of Johnstown through the financial assistance to non-for-profit corporations, and public and private agencies, located in or near the City of Johnstown and providing health related services that are available to all the people of Johnstown, in order to assure the maximum level of health care permissible under the New York Law and regulations.
Specific areas we are interested in supporting:
Health related services shall include health care centers providing medical, diagnostic, and clinical services; local emergency medical transportation services; acute care hospitals, and in general, those that foster the quality of health care, both physical and mental, including those providing treatment, care, safety, preventive practices and health related education, to and for the people of the City of Johnstown and surrounding areas.
The Johnstown Hospital Foundation funds capital projects, equipment, renovations, services and programs. Funds may NOT be used for personnel expenses or working capital.
All decisions on awards are at the discretion of the board of directors of the Johnstown Hospital Foundation, based on available funding and appropriateness of the request to our Mission.
